USDIDX: Federal Reserve interest rate decision is the key event in the January 30 - February 3 week. Fed chair Jerome Powell will hold a conference on February 1. Several members of Federal Open Market Committee voiced their support last week for high interest rates to bring down inflation. While part of policy makers said there is still room for further rate hikes the mixed data like bigger than expected declines in US retail sales and industrial production in December showed US economy is cooling. Majority of traders expect a 50 basis points increase in the benchmark rate and a 25 basis point increase will be bearish for the USDIDX.

EURUSD: European Central Bank interest rate decision is a major economic event in the January 30 - February 3 week. European Central Bank will hold its conference on February 2. ECB has said it plans to raise rates to bring inflation back to its target rate of just above 2% and analysts expect a 50 basis point rate hike at February meeting. In case the ECB actually raises interest rates by 25 basis points instead of 50 basis points - the EURUSD will get a bearish impulse.
